MULTIPLE BOX HOUSE @ WEST COAST TERRACE
Architectural + Interior Design
3 800 sqft _ 3 Storey Corner Terrace House
This corner terrace house is the home of a Multi-Generation 16-member extended family. The family is well knit and cares much about their interactivity.
The living spaces on the 1st floor are planned along a continuous thoroughfare. This allows for various members of the family to be in visual proximity to one another while going about their own affairs. This promotes interaction and a sense of family-ness.
Above on the 2nd and Attic floors, all 7 bedrooms are designed to be simple, spacious and efficient. We have also made provision for a future extension of 2 more bedrooms bringing the total no. of bedrooms to 9.
The stairwell is also designed to allow for increased visual interaction between family members as they transition from space to space. Family interaction is the Key point in the design of this private residence.
The building form is our take on the proverbial modernistic ‘white box’ architecture that is too commonly seen in local residential architecture. Instead of expressing the house as a clean and singular form, we have decided to express this house as an agglomeration of multiple clean and simple boxes. Rooms, Planters and Balconies all becomes a part of this unique assemblage.
MU Architects has given the conventional modernist expression a twist that adds character and intrigue to this house’s overall form.
The Project was awarded an Honourable Mention at the 2013 IAI Asia Pacific Awards.
