INTEGRATED FAMILY SERVICE CENTRE @ ANG MO KIO
Architectural Compliance & Interior Design
4 000 Sq Ft Social & Community Institution
The Integrated Service Centre, effectively managed by AMKFSC Community Services, a vital social institution operating under the Ministry of Social and Family Development, acts as a pivotal hub encompassing a Counseling Centre alongside Office Space for dedicated social workers. Moreover, an Activity Area is thoughtfully incorporated for the benefit of the community, facilitating a variety of programs and events, all conveniently located at the Void Deck of an HDB block nestled in the heart of Ang Mo Kio.
MU Architects primary objective for the design of this new facility was to redefine how social services located at HDB void decks could be reimagined. These spaces are often banal in design and have an ubiquitous appearance. We wanted the Integrated Service Centre to be able to project a confident and contemporary character so as to clearly establish its community presence. Furthermore, we wanted the interiors to exude an welcoming and comfortable vibe so that individuals and families that require the services of the Social Workers at the Integrated Service Centre will naturally feel at ease during a visit.
We worked with a tight budget but found a variety of ways to create an aesthetic language that is inviting and contemporary all at the same time. Arches and Curves add an unique character and softness to the space. We utilised various paint colours and shapes to further accentuate the different spaces and functions within the Centre. The pale grey terrazzo tiles, pastel colours and soft lighting lend themselves to creating the desired ambience. Further accents of multi-coloured subway tiles for feature walls, ribbed glass panels for sliding doors and Neon light signages brings a seldom seen but much needed vivaciousness to this social institution.
